Detail

With a history stretching back more than four hundred years, Aldenham offers an excellent all round education for boys and girls within a strong community with extensive tradition set on the same site of more than 110 acres of beautiful countryside just thirteen miles from central London, with Heathrow airport only 35 minutes away. The ethos of the School is built around the boarding houses where students live and work when not in classes, with dedicated, highly qualified staff available to help at all hours.

The close knit, small and supportive community creates an ideal environment for a high quality education, with a personal tutor for every pupil in classes no larger than 20 pupils. The full boarding programme at weekends includes EAL classes specifically for overseas students. We are pleased to offer a family atmosphere, whilst maintaining a clear code of discipline; Chinese students are quickly made to feel at home in either the Girls’ boarding house or in one of the 3 Boys’ boarding houses where they are looked after by a Housemaster, his wife and supporting staff in a family-like community. Sixth Form boarders have a choice of either an individual room or a double room if they wish to share with a friend. We have a large community of full-time boarders from all over the world, particularly from Germany, China, Korea and America.

With around 175 pupils, the Sixth Form is a significant element of Aldenham which benefits from a newly-opened Sixth Form Centre right in the heart of the School. A wide range of courses is offered at A Level with most pupils leaving to go to their chosen Universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Margaret Ma: Went to Oxford University and now works at JPMorgan, Margaret believes that this was made possible due to the most enjoyable two years she spent at Aldenham School and the subsequent support she has received since then. "Coming to England on my own at the age of sixteen, I regarded Aldenham School as my home in the UK not only because of the well-established boarding system, but more importantly, the warm and welcoming environment and friendly and helpful people around. The moderate size ensures every single student, especially those from overseas pupils, are taken great care of both socially and academically. With only five or six fellow students and a professional and approachable teacher in a class, the depth of knowledge learnt can be tailor-made to the pupils, which stimulates them to excel in their area of interest. The amount of extra-curricular activities provided in Aldenham is enormous, ranging from drama, concerts, hockey, horse riding to charity work for the nearby community which gives the opportunity to further develop teamwork and leadership skills whilst having fun. The well-rounded personality formed afterwards plays an important part for the future. Also, the alumni network of Aldenham is incredibly diverse and solid. These experiences have been invaluable for my personal progression and are the influential factors during my job-seeking process. Aldenham School has been a fantastic starting point for my life in the UK, and I truly believe it will be the same for lots of others.”

Emily Chan: went to Cambridge where she read Economics. Emily joined Aldenham from overseas to study A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and IT. As a boarder she enjoyed taking a full part in the life of the School including playing an important role in organising a charity fashion show and joining in skiing and sailing activities. About her time at the School Emily says: “I have made a lot of good friends at Aldenham and enjoyed the opportunity to meet boys and girls from other countries – now I have friends all over the world. Everyone was really supportive, the teachers very encouraging and I was given lots of individual attention. Right from my first day I was involved in some activity and so I found it easy to settle in - I was very happy at Aldenham.”
