Academic Strength
Canford was ranked academically among the top 5 co-educational boarding schools in the UK by The Daily Telegraph in 2014and has a reputation for excellence in academic matters. The school aims to foster a lifelong love of learning and offers a wide range of enrichment groups and societies to encourage intellectual development well beyond the confines of curriculum study

• Science has long been a strength. In the past 12 years, of 134 applications to Medical Schools, over 80% have been successful, with many places on Science related courses.

Boarding Life
Canford is a full boarding school. There is no weekly or flexi-boarding and there is a full programme of activities during the evenings and at weekends. The school makes good use of its location just 5 miles from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site, with its95 miles of coastline and beaches.

Universities and Careers
The school leads the way in its region in terms of offers to Oxford and Cambridge, with 54 places in the past 5 years. Virtually all pupils move on to university, with 90%gaining places at top flight institutions in the UK and Ivy League universities including Princeton, Yale and Columbia in the US in 2015.
Chinese pupils have flourished at Canford over many years. Recent success includes:

Beyond the classroom pupils can choose from over 30 different sports and activities. In addition to the traditional boys’ school sports of Rugby, Hockey and Cricket, and Hockey, Netball and Tennis for girls, there is, for example, Rowing from the school boathouse, Basketball and Badminton for both boys and girls while Canford is one of only a handful of schools in the UK with an original Real Tennis court.

There is an active CCF programme for Army, Navy and Marines, and the school is a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award centre. All pupils are involved in Community Service programmes both in the UK and abroad.

The creative arts are strong both as academic subjects and in co-curricular options.
